A Therapeutic Pageant for Maine girls and women with disabilities 

Portland, ME, June 12, 2016– The first annual Miss Sensational Pageant will take place at Riverton Elementary School (1600 Forest Ave, Portland, ME 04103) at 2:00 pm, June 18, 2016. It is a therapeutic pageant for girls and women of all ages with disabilities in the state of Maine. 

The Miss Sensational Pageant was founded by Katherine Ambrose, MS, OTR/L, an occupational therapist for the Portland School District, and Ali Clair, Miss Maine USA 2013. Their goal is to create a positive experience through pageantry that celebrates the abilities and beauty of girls and women with disabilities. Their goals are to equip and empower participants with confidence, life skills, and lasting friendships, as well as to educate the community about disabilities and the importance of acceptance.  

Twelve women and girls will participate as contestants this year, and each will win a sash and crown. 
Miss Sensational Pageant is a program of Crossroads Youth Center a 501c3 non profit youth organization that fosters awareness, social education and teaches tolerance for a safe environment. Crossroads provides a platform to raise awareness about the most pressing issues facing children, youth, and teens in today’s society, utilizing research-based information and the developmental assets. Their goals for all their programs are to promote positive social behaviors, including being Fair, kind, Understanding, accepting, Caring, honest, courageous, responsible, respectful, and compassionate. www.cycsaco.org.
